Obama releases long form birth document, rips 'silliness' of debate over issue

Obama said he realized the release of the certificate would not satisfy everyone, but said the political discourse could not be helped by “sideshows” and “carnival barkers” continuing to talk about the issue.

Who could he have had in mind? Perhaps....

Trump, for his part, claimed credit for the release of the document during a media event in New Hampshire. The developer said he was "honored" of his role in the controversy.

"I've accomplished something nobody else has accomplished," in getting the birth certificate made public. Trump said he would want to see it before proclaiming it authentic. "I want to look at it but I hope it’s true."

Side shows and carnival barkers indeed. It would naive to think that this will actually shut them up, of course.

The most transparent president in history should have released it while on the campaign trial.

The topic shifted a long time ago from 'was he born in the US' to other issues. And yes, it is Trump who is responsible for its release.

Will it settle the debate over where he was born? It might not. It might show that he was born at home (which was still common in the 60's) and that his mother went to the hospital a few days later to register the birth. Then people will say she flew into Hawaii after he was born. It will show that she was not married - which is no secret.

However, a timeline of her wherabouts and his fathers sheds serious doubts on any notion that she left the states then returned. Obama's father was definitely in the states and she would have no reason to go to Kenya without him to delver a baby in a third world country.

But what if she was merely visiting friends on a nearby non-US island? Japan, guam, fiji, tahiti, samoa? Doubts could still be raised unless the long form shows that he was actually born in the hospital. These doubts might not ever be able to be satisfactorily aswered - which is probably the reason for the lack of transparency.

In short, the two most likely scenarios are that he was born in a hospital in Hawaii or at home in Hawaii. If in the hospital then why the lack of transparency? If at home how will he ever answer the skeptics?

Obama already released his. I am certain Trump will show his shortly - he said he would.

Why didn't Obama say, "Here's my birth certificate, Mr. Daddy Warbucks. Read it and weep! And the next time you have a minor request like this, put it in writing and send to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington DC. I will see that you get a reply if your request is reasonable."

What you say is not the issue has a direct causal link with what you say IS the issue. obozo's intellectual incapacity and inexperience in almost anything relevent to the job (military experience, business experience, experience as an executive, knowledge of economics) has created a rolling disaster.

obozo got in because of the leftwing media's steadfast refusal to report on anything substantive about his background or past - the same lib media which asked sarah palin what books she read refused to demand obozo's academic record - another OBVIOUS indicator of his competence for the job.

Obama's intellectual capacity is almost certainly higher than that of his predecessor. The problem is lack of experience, which the Republicans didn't really say much about during the election, focusing instead on his being a Muslim, a Marxist, and not born in America. That nonsense, along with failing to offer an electable alternative, is why Obama was elected in the first place.

Now, the issue is whether the Republicans will offer anything better, or whether we will once again have the choice of the lesser of the evils.

Intellectual capacity does not automatically correlate into the creation of good policy....

You can be very smart, and enact bad policy. If you spent years studying Keynesian economics, you could be very smart, but following such an ideology would not have proven beneficial as of yet.

Point is, someone with average grades is capable of creating great policy, and someone who made straight A's is capable of enacting horrible policy.

We need to be talking about his failure on jobs, the economy, and spending...not focused on some nuanced debate of why he believes in a particular ideology.

also they gave out the legal live birth one...sane people should have just shut up then.
