Lt. Gen. Franklin “Buster” Hagenbeck, superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy, has decided to gender-neutralize the lyrics of West Point’s two most hallowed songs, the alma mater (“Guide us, thy sons, aright”) and “The Corps” (“We sons of today, we salute you,” etc.). The decision follows a similar one by the Naval Academy in 2004; the Air Force Academy retains — for now, at least — its testosterone-dripping alma mater (“Brother men who fly . . . a toast to the host of men we boast”).
