"I want to be judged on the basis of my character" makes for an excellent speech behind a microphone.
But what happens when you get what you wanted ?
Then what ?
Downtrodden loser, scumbag, and asshole are a content of character, every bit as much as positive, outgoing, caring, and successful, and optimistic and enthusiastic.
These characteristics need to displayed, they can't be just in your head, because if they are just in your head that you are any one of these, you could be wrong.
But what happens when you get what you wanted ?
