Yes, conservatives do support the lowest possible taxes, and smallest government possible. There are very few conservatives left in Washington, but that's another story altogether. And, along with the conservative view that the government should be the smallest possible, and taxes lowest possible, is the opposing view that government should impose an absolutist policy on abortion, and should make decisions about marriage that are not within its purview. That is the conflict of values I've been talking about.
