Ignore the World?

In the movie Rambo (2008) some Christian missionaries want him to save members of their flock that had traveled to a war zone in Burma. The missionary says something like, "Don't you want to make the world a better place?", In response, Rambo says, "Ignore the world", "Forget the world.". Actually, he says another profane word in place of the word ignore. He tells the missionary, "Go home.".

Does anyone sympathize with the way he feels, even though you still have a spirit which wants change? Look at the fictional Rambo's life, which is similar to many other people's lives. Considering his background, is it no shock he feels this way?

It doesn't surprise me much. People, even Christian people, grow weary and tired sometimes. We see the constant results of a fallen world, and just don't see a lot of hope for any positive, lasting change. Hopefully Christians pull out of it, and become strong again. Remember Jonah?

In the movie one member of the mercenary team makes a cynical comment about do-gooder types. He claims it's ironic that once bad things go down, the do-gooder, save the world people call on tough guys to do the "devils work". The do-gooder types would like to change people, but ultimately only bloodshed changes things. Does anyone somewhat agree with that statement?
