A cruise missile smashed into an administrative building inside Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's compound in Tripoli overnight Sunday, as international forces kept up their military bombardment. It wasn't clear where Gadhafi was at the time the missile landed.

The Libyan government escorted journalists from at least two major news outlets to the scene to view the damaged building, which stands near the iconic Bedouin tent where Gadhafi has been known to entertain foreign guests.

Half of the multistory building was destroyed, and scraps of metal from the missile lay scattered across the area.

Explosions and anti-aircraft gunfire had erupted in the Libyan capital earlier in the night, signaling another round of coalition air assaults.

The military operation began overnight Saturday to enforce a UN Security Council resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in the fighting between Gadhafi forces and members of the month-old opposition movement.

U.S and Europe should be on high alert. Cause Gadhafi threaten to use terrorist retalation

Remember the Terrorist close call in NYC at times square? Truck full of explosives was caught just in time. And the Terrorist said when he was caught it was retalation for U.S used drones in Pakistan. NYC and L.A should be on high alert because of Gadhafi threats.

One of his sons, Khamis, was supposedly killed in one of the attacks, but of course loyalists deny it.

What exactly was our purpose in Libya? Enforce no fly zone. Prevent civilian casualties. Ceasefire with the rebels. I guess anything we do can somehow indirectly linked to that mission statement. I guess Gaddafi just lives unlucky with a country next to the Mediterranean Sea. With our other wars against Muslims our US Navy has not been able to get close enough to use their full military capabilities. Our sailors have been hungry to see some action and get a medal.

our purpuse was the no fly zone and to protect citizens...that attack on Gadafi was I am told done by the Brits...who have different goals overall. But the US is not targeting him as one of our goals as stated..though our overall hope is that he is gone ( we wanted Saddam gone for most of the no fly zone, but it was not the goal/target of it)

And what do you think Gadafi would have done had we not stepped in? how many civilians would have died when he as he stated..showed no mercy? Would you have been fine with that? Keep in mind this is a guy who blew up passenger jets of civilians already...Hence why already once we have had to bomb lybia..under Regan.

I remember well that this is not the first encounter with Libya. In fact the very first foreign war fought by the United States against the Pirates of the Barbary Coast (aka, Tripoli) under Thomas Jefferson. He had the courtesy to consult Congress first.

To answer your question, my solution would be for the rebels to surrender. They obviously did not have a proper battle plan for overthrowing Gaddafi, and basically lost their revolution. Gaddafi would no longer have any reason to bomb innocent civilians.

We just cannot come to the aid of every poorly planned revolution against a ruthless leader. We can not force a regime change for every country that has a tyrannical leader. Maybe in time the world will become sufficiently civilized to organize a way to handle these humanitarian crises, but right now we do not. And nobody wants the US to be the self-appointed policemen of the world.

If the rebels surrender what would happen to their leaders. They would surly be totued and Killed. We can allow this. Perhaps we should take them to a safe country. Or at least retain one free city.
