House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk, pictured standing, far right, speaks while colleagues Rep. Barbara Lambert, D-Milford and Rep. Jack F. Hennessy, D-Bridgeport, play solitaire Monday night as the House convened to vote on a new budget. (AP)

The guy sitting in the row in front of these two... he's on Facebook, and the guy behind Hennessy is checking out the baseball scores.

We collectively are their bosses. Are you satisfied with your employees' work ethic?

Without knowing what he was saying, this may be an instance of response to often repeated party dogma. If it was, I would be surfing the net instead of listening also. But, I would be there when the time to vote came around.

Rather sad and so telling about our 'ELECTED OFFICIALS'...but to be totally fair and unbiased...wouldn't we need a entire view of ALL the people seated in the room during that session. But as with all things...this is just a sampling of the 'lessor thinking humans' that are supposed to be paying attention while the individual is making 'talking points on an issue' but I'm quite sure that down through the history there were the 'doodlers/sleepers/lost in thought' elected officials that did things such as this and if not on their lap tops most likely on those hand held gadgets that you can text message or play games on!!!

'NEW HOUSE RULES' all gadgets are kept off during discussions: no cell phones, no black berries, no laptops, no doodlers, no thumb suckers, no sleeping etc., etc., etc., :D

None of this is relevant.. all the remarks will have been prepared in advance, often an advance copy will have been given to the Members. Additionally, the transcripts of these meetings are delivered the following day to member offices. It is not like not paying attention (or not being there) means members do not know what was said.

Even if they did not need to listen to the speaker they could still be performing actual work.
