This has been an interesting day. Stevens turned 85years young today. He lost his Senate seat to Mark Begich, but it is probably all for the best. I am just glad this will clear up a bunch of questions, and everyone but Ted is breathing a sigh of relief.
Senate Republicans wont have to vote on him losing his membership in the GOP conference. http://www.adn.com/news/politics/fbi/stevens/story/593157.html
Sarah will remain in place as the Governor. Where she has so far faced a cautious reception from Alaskans.
Begich goes to DC. In a way taking up the reigns left off when his father
Rep. Nick Begich and Rep. Boggs from Louisiana, were lost in a small plane somewhere along the gulf coast of Alaska. That was 35 years ago, Mark was about 9 years old when it happened.
Then there leaves Uncle Ted. In a way, all Alaskans knew this day would come. When Ted would no longer be in DC for us. I acknowledge being a part of his defeat, but for Ted it is ultimately better this way. He lost, he can retire quietly, and take his pardon from Bush which I have little doubt will be coming. Also, he keeps his Senate benefits, and his name remains on the Anchorage International Airport.
As a side note, when they made the push to name ANC after Ted, I thought it was a bad idea to name landmarks and that sort of thing after living people.
