1. Britain, the United States and Australia have agreed to cooperate on hypersonic weapons and electronic warfare capabilities, the leaders of those countries said, following a call about their new defence alliance....
The US and Australia already have a hypersonic weapon program called SCIFiRE, an acronym for Southern Cross Integrated Flight Research Experiment.
British officials said that though Britain would not join that program at this point, the three countries would work together on research and development in the area to expand their options....

2. On August 24, 1814, during the War of 1812 between the United States and England, British troops enter Washington, D.C. and burn the White House in retaliation for the American attack on the city of York in Ontario, Canada, in June 1813.
When the British arrived at the White House, they found that President James Madison and his first lady Dolley had already fled to safety in Maryland. Soldiers reportedly sat down to eat a meal made of leftover food from the White House scullery using White House dishes and silver before ransacking the presidential mansion and setting it ablaze....

3. The following are interesting points about the AUKUS hypersonic weapon programme:
(a) As the war in Ukraine shows no sign of abating, the announcement of the new hypersonic weapon programme far away from the European theatre of war shows that the US does not give a damn about Europe, leaving it at the mercy of Russian aggression. It also shows the US is regarding Europe as a buffer zone between it and Russia. What the US should have done is to work with its NATO partners in continental Europe, notably France and Germany, in the development of hypersonic and anti-hypersonic weaponry instead.
After accusing Australia of stabbing in the back over a nuclear-powered submarine deal with the UK and the US in September last year, France must still be licking its wounds.
(b) The White House coward made a terrible blunder by repeating publicly it would not send troops to rescue any Americans trapped in Ukraine. It had the effect of indirectly encouraging his Russian counterpart to launch a full-scale invasion against Ukraine. By excluding NATO's continental European allies from the hypersonic weapon program this time, it has the effect of indirectly signalling to Russia to continue with its invasion of Ukraine.
It is also another sign that the US does not trust its European allies. This is not surprising because Europe was the bitter enemy of the US for about 140 years before the First World War. During that period, US merchant ships were not safe from seizure by British and French warships.
(c) Until the early 20th century, the greatest potential threat to attack the United States was seen as the British Empire. Seacoast defense in the United States was organized on that basis, and military strategy was developed to forestall a British attack.... "War Plan Red" was specifically designed to deal with a British attack on the United States and a subsequent invasion of Canada. Similar plans existed for a 20th-century war with Mexico, although the ability of the Mexican Army to attack and occupy American soil was considered negligible.

(d) It is interesting to note that the US did not seek the UK as a partner in SCIFiRE (Southern Cross Integrated Flight Research Experiment) from the very beginning. This also does not come as a surprise because the Uncle Sam still has great distrust of his former imperial master, with bitter memories of August 24, 1814 when the redcoats were literally eating his lunch at the White House before setting it ablaze.
The redcoats are coming! That’s what the Americans warned as British soldiers, or redcoats, were on their way to battle during the American Revolution. The sight of the redcoats, or even the word "redcoat", struck terror into the whole American population in the early days of the revolution just like what the Ukrainians are feeling now in their conflict with Russia.
Hence it is interesting to see how the two strange bedfellows (Uncle Sam and John Bull) can fulfill their hypersonic dream together without kicking each other down the bed.
P.S. In my opinion, the US gun laws could help the Americans wage a prolonged guerrilla warfare against the British Empire had it made a successful comeback after the American Revolution.
By the way, China should launch a free and open Indo-Pacific Afro-Euro-Atlantic strategy vis-à-vis America's Indo-Pacific strategy.
