Jesus believed that his duty was to restore Judaism to its former status, before the Greeks and Romans had influenced the Jews. He told his disciples to avoid the Gentile and Samaritan communities and to preach only to Jews.

Paul did the opposite: he preached to mostly Gentiles because they vastly outnumbered Jews and were far more easily to convert.
