Ok Folks,
Firstly, I noticed quite a few threads already about the debate. Rather than try and wade through dozens of posts, I will leave my thoughts here....and give a few updates from Alaska that are relevant to the national picture.
The Debate
Sarah did better than expected. There is no question about that in my mind. Probably better than others I have seen her in. I wouldnt quite call it a Palin victory though. I think a draw is a fair conclusion. Biden didnt come across as a bully, but probably could have been a bit more aggressive.
As a side note, the whole bit about Alaska working to divest from Sudan when it comes to the Permanent Fund, is not exactly truthful. There was a bill floated this legislative session to do just that. It failed as she noted, but her administration was generally opposed to the move. I found it interesting she even brought this up.
Also, I thought Gwen Ifill did a very fair and professional job as moderator. I know there were some concerns about this before the debate. I hope we are over that hurdle.
TrooperGate
This is heating up again. Today a Superior Court judge upheld the Legislative Subpoenas issues over the issue. It is being appealled to the Supreme Court, but it is likely the lower ruling will stand. The various people, including the First Dude will likely be forced to testify to thier involvement in the issue.
Here are some links from the Anchorage Daily News. It appears the Legislature has been well within its powers to issue such subpoenas and to inquire about the firing of a cabinet member that must be voted on by the Legislative branch.
Youll notice in the legal briefings that the argument concerning not allowing this to go forwards is that the results will come out before the election. The notion they are trying to suppress this information before the election. That is troublesome to me.
