Union names Chinese Premier 'best friend of the American Worker'

well I guess anyone but BO is a friend of the American Worker.

At the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s regular press conference last week, spokesperson Liu Weimin’s revealed that Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao was awarded ”the Best Friend of American Worker” by the US International Longshoremen’s Association. The Chinese ambassador to the United States reportedly received the award on his behalf. Liu explained:
It is learned that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the cooperation between China Cosco Group and the US port of Boston. The past decade has witnessed sound cooperation between the two sides, which sustains and creates a large amount of job opportunities for Boston. It reflects the mutually beneficial nature of China-US economic cooperation and trade. The award presented by the US International Longshoremen’s Association to Premier Wen Jiabao is to thank the Chinese Government for its efforts to encourage Chinese enterprises’ investment in the US and to promote bilateral economic cooperation and trade. This gratitude is sincere and heartfelt. Premier Wen Jiabao visited the Port of Boston during his visit to the US in 2003.

dogtowner, et al,

Longshoremen! I can see that. We import so much stuff because we cannot make it here. It would keep the Longshoremen busy.

Most Respectfully,

so too Greece not thr unions though
I am not sure what you mean. Greece has had strong Socialist government and strong unions. It just shows that no economic system is perfect. The Recession started in Capitalist USA and ended up in socialist Greece.

no, what it shows is that the further you walk down the socialist path the more surely you will collapse leaving all the benefits those strong unions promised vanished in thin air.

Looks like Greece is in a world of hurt. Many have seen as much as a 50% drop in wages, and additional taxes added every day. They pay a progressive income tax like we do and new ones are added every day. They also have about a 20% unemployment rate. Yep, socialism and unions have worked out great there. Outside of government just seeing everyone gets fed and gets healthcare, they have pretty much have already been forced into a state of communism.

If getting fed and getting health care, is communism I think there are many in the world that would welcome it. In fact this is a right practiced by most countries in the world Not all government of Greece have been socialists. but the benefits were keep regardless of government. Now the Socialist among others have agree to the necessary cut backs determined by Germany and the Banks.

Is that why they have been striking and rioting in the streets for two years?
Yes, The cutbacks in pensions and wages have been severe. In some cases the pension was exsessive cutting in at 55. However some of the cures proposed by other countries are harsh.

It is strange the cutbacks in the the Country that started the Global Financial recession the USA were not so hash. Perhaps they had less to cut back or these measures might not be a cure at all.
