Been wondering about this and thought I'd see what you thought...

IF

The House can pass whatever emerges from the smoke filled room where they are attempting to cobble together soemthing regarding health insurance, will Harry Reid bypass cloture and use the reconcillation rule to get it to a simple majority vote ?

AND

If he does, will it work ?

He's already seeng the handwriting on the wall for his re-election so why would he care but will the Senate Dems want to be part of that ? For that matter will the House dems risk their seats over legialation that they country is pretty clear about not wanting (at least as being onsidered) ?

So opine, or not.

With all that has gone on so far, there has been no real ramifications. We've caught political leaders literally bribing Congress people with tax payer dollars. The White House has arm twisted at the cost of focusing on their real job. Why on earth won't they pull out all stops going into the real vote.

Looks like ramifications for Nelson and Reid to me.

Will the others fall on their swords too ? Its got me wondering.

Moved, as per request.

I think the Democrats will do anything at this point in order to save face and pass something, anything. The health care reform bill has been so gutted at this point it is hard to see what it will accomplish other than giving the Democrats a chance to say that they passed health care reform.

That could be wrong, and I hope it is, but that's the way it is looking just now.

Democrats still have a ways to go.

They can lose 0 votes in the Senate, and only 3 (I think) in the House. Given that they are going to have to compromise of things like abortion, the public option etc... it is a tall order to not upset that many in the process, and potentially lose their votes.

The hard part was not passing something in each chamber (granted that was a challenge), the hard part is not having it all fall apart in conference, which is not entirely unlikely.

Well, should the SCOTUS fail to mark it as unconstitutional it will add trillions to the debt, thousands to your health insurance and mine and Lord knows how many to the unemployment lines. Plenty enough teeth to remove a large chunk of my behind in this bill in its least socialistic form..

I think it's been watered down to the point that all it will do is raise premiums once again. Of course, we aren't really privy to what is in the final bill as yet, so that could be wrong.

What it doesn't seem to do is put a damper on rising costs. That could be wrong, too, at least I hope so.

No, nothing to manage medical costs which are the problem. So all it does is make the problem worse.
