Why does education matter to Obama?

In the speech the other night adressed to the nation, it was quite comical to hear Obama talk about creating better schools, and having more kids educated and go to college.

But why? The goal to school is to get good education and get a good paying job and then move up in the ranks and of course hopefully start a business or become the best at what you do.

What incentive does anyone have to succeed at anything any more. With the taxes on those making over 250,000.000 which really is not a huge amount of money, why should anyone want to excel.

doctors, lawyers... where will they come from . Those are the types of jobs that pay that type of money. Pharmacists, scientists.

Maybe someone on the lib side can explain how this is going to work? I'd like to be informed.

Just to point out, if everyone has a college degree, it is not really worth all that much. Just like a high school education alone does not get you very far today, if everyone had a college degree, it would be the masters degrees that would then make the difference.

Everyone going to college is not necessarily a good thing, especially if it simply nullifies the benefits of college and makes advanced degrees more important.

I would like to see the Obama administration put a salary cap on liberal professors. That would be a thrill.

I was thinking about this after he had his big speech

if we all commit to a year in college and have a years worth of debt even if we are ditch diggers and burger flippers how are we better off.

Not everyone is going to be a doctor or attorney or what ever, the world needs ditch diggers too and not ones from mexico

But if the professors took less pay, then we wouldn't have to give money to the people to pay for college. It would be affordable.

then everyone could go to college if they wanted to.

I know you are probably joking here, but I hate the notion that government should be regulating anyone's pay, even if they are on the far left.

I think I just lucked out during my college days, my professors never really tried to take a side. They would simply play devil's advocate regardless of the points that were raised, mostly just to get you thinking and be able to back up your views.

You are correct, I am joking. I don't beleive in government involvement in pay caps.

My parents have always been hot to trot about education, and I do understand the reasoning.

Nevertheless, my real world experience has not been as positive for schooling. Now granted, I openly understand that I have a very limited data set (my personal experience) from which I am making my conclusions....

However, even where I work, more than 6 people, have college degrees. They are paid exactly the same as myself, and I do not have a degree yet. They are where I am going to be, and I'm already paid as much as they are.

Further, there are a dozen or more people without any college or degrees, nor any future plans to acquire them. Yet they are paid more than those with degrees because of seniority.

Moreover, I know of dozens of people with college degrees doing jobs that absolutely nothing to do with their degree. One had a four year engineering degree in electronics, but was doing the same monkey screw driver job, as a guy from India that had no education at all, and barely spoke English.

It seems to me, and this is my opinion, and worth what you paid for it, that it's more important to learn some skill, and work at it, than it does getting an education. Now obviously, if you have your heart set on a specific industry that requires an education, you have get it. But in many cases, learning some skill, or some trade, is more important.

Obama's concerns are more-adult, by nature, intended for those who're interested in the direction of our economy; not exactly interests that'd be of any concern to some school-kid.

That's why the German-system is so-much-more viable, than anything in the U.S.; that some people need to be exposed to the actual-workings of any (specific) career-track, before they see the value in an advanced-education.

The down-side??

Business & Government work-together...seeing-as-how a solid-economy benefits both.

In the U.S., the point at which Business & Government cooperate, is when Satan gets involved....and, we certainly don't need any o'-that!!

so Shaman, I'll make this easy for you. Answer the question and don't dodge it like usual.

What is the incentive to go to school and get an great education if you are going to be held back and limited to how great you can become by big government.

Answer it Shaman. No lameeness... Just answer it..

If you can't I can.

Big govt is taking incentive away from every walk of life. If not than show me an example of big govt giving incentive to anything.

Not gonna happen because the socialist ideology that spews from the mouth of Obama doesn't beleive in rewarding the winners. They are all evil.

I'm waiting for you Shaman.

Don't you know the routine with folks like Shaman. They're real vocal and tough until caught, and then cry or blame it on a bad childhood. Don't ask for responsibility from one who feels "entitled" not to take it.
