Moldova's Vladimir Plahotniuc, a shadow ruler of the country, who once was a protégé of President Obama seems to have lost credibility with the U.S. Government. Otherwise you have no plausible explanation to the recent article in the Washington Times depicting the man as the most corrupt politician of the modern era. Yet, Plahotniuc's grip on power in Moldova has not weakened, which makes sense only in one case - he has sold out to someone else. A most likely option, given the recent developments in the U.S. - EU relations, is that the 'someone' sits in Brussels.

Anyway, this whole story with Moldova's notorious oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc is a clear reminder to the mightiest world powers that they should take special care when dealing with crooks from small, poor, distant and largely unknown countries, lest they want to eventually be made fools of.

Following is the article.
