Envy of the rich is a common argument that for the most part is not valid. I think the problem is that the super wealthy are wielding power with that money. Wealthy candidates and PACs can overwhelm the media with distortions to gain elections and sway thinking.

Using wealth to buy yachts and art, etc is harmless, but using it to buy power and control over people is not harmless.

The super wealthy are far more dangerous in various flavors of socialist societies than they are in a capitalist society....socialism has shown that the "law" can be bought and paid for on a very large scale...not so easy in a capitalist society. In that sort of society, the super wealthy can become literal tyrants on a very large scale.

There is no such thing as a socialist state: the state exists only to defend class rule. The problem in the US is that a lot of the controlling thieves are so stupid they value their own interests above the future of their class.
