1. Donald Trump is giving America and the world a lesson in the value of shame – and the power of shamelessness. Through his actions, most vividly his firing on Tuesday of the FBI director James Comey and his comments about it since, Trump has taught us that shame performs a vital democratic function – and how dangerous is the man who feels none of it.

......The constitution is powerless unless there are people willing to enforce it. Today, that means Republicans in the House of Representatives. Only they have the power to bring impeachment proceedings against the president. Given what we already know, the constitution all but requires them to do it. But their loyalty to party means they refuse to do their duty. They too feel no shame.

This, I see now, is the weakness of any written constitution. It cannot extend its protective reach to those valuable customs and traditions that stand outside it. And it cannot even defend its own provisions when those with power refuse to honour their democratic obligations.

Even the most ancient and beautiful documents cannot protect us. Only the respect of the powerful for those documents can do that. When that is gone, when they feel no shame, democracy stands naked – and vulnerable.

2. To let a shameless and dangerous man lead a nation shows that there is something very wrong with American diplomacy. Trump is "the emperor with no clothes", and US democracy lies naked and vulnerable under him.

Reedak, I think you need to take a long hard look at Venezuela. 25 years ago it was the most prosperous country in S Ametica. People were well fed and clothed, had decent jobs and many of their kids went on to college. Venezuela was a model for success
Today it is a third world country. Serious food shortages, employment at record low levels, people standing in lines for a loaf of bread, personal freedoms cut back severely.
And how did all this downhill slide start? They elected a socialist, Hugo Chavez. He was more interested in pursuing socialist policies than he was in the citizens of Venezuela who he swore to protect. After Chavez the country was weak and ripe for a dictator to take over.
I used to work with a gal who immigrated to the US before Chavez. A great deal of her earnings now are sent to her surviving relatives to keep them alive.
Prosperous country to third world poor house. All because of socialism.
And you want that for us?
NO THANKS !!!

Actually reedak, I have a suggestion for you. Why dont you move to Venezuela? Then you can see the results of your socialist utopia myth.
You can listen to John Lennon sing Imagine all day and stand in food lines and maybe you have a relative in the US who will send you money. You can live in a society with extremely limited personal freedom and you can rant about how bad Trump is all day. And you can pay through the nose for the dump you live in.
And as for the gal I worked with, her brother stayed in Venezuela. Things got so bad he now lives in Colombia illegally. He says he is better off as an illegal immigrant in Colombia than as a legal in Venezuela.
Why dont you move down there and see for yourself?

Mass unemployment over coronavirus could lead to a 45% jump in homelessness.

My great friend, you should ask the increasing number of homeless Americans to find new homes abroad.

Anyway, there is no need for me to take the trouble to emigrate now, because I know both of us, like all mortals, will eventually emigrate to the Great Beyond.

My great friend, there is no need to "take a long hard look at Venezuela". Just look at the US.

Four more years of President Donald Trump will prove “catastrophic” to the US as it could end up like Venezuela.

A little time can pay off...bigly. As it turns out Trump was right to fire Comey.

1. My great friend, if you belong to the Trump team, you will have to pray daily that you won't end up as a "Trumpian umbrella". :)

Please see Joke 8 for the meaning of "Trumpian umbrella" in the following link.

2. You may find a lot of fun in your birthday party playing this new variant of musical chairs (invented by me with inspiration from Donald Trump's bizarre behaviour) called "You’re fired".

As it turned out Comey was leaking to the media. Trump was absolutely correct to fire him.

Now, a little something for you:
