“Transgender” is a Mental Illness and Should be Treated as such

I don't exactly remember, but I'm pretty sure that it was societal norms. It has become such a common thing now, that they no longer consider it a mental illness.
Well it was no more or less common back in the 80's when APA reclassified it but you are correct to note that there was no scientifically based justification for it. Nothing had been discovered to alter the hundred plus years of research, observation and treatment. They just changed it.

Werbung:
Gender is a vague concept and a tiny minority of us have a problem with producing enough male or female hormones due to certain genetic conditions. That's why some men are physically and mentally closer to women or vice versa and it has nothing to do with mental problems.

Choosing to mutilate yourself due to a perception is not sane.

Are you just shooting from your gut? You are dead wrong. Lots and lots have been discovered in the last hundred years, especially using MRI, about the brain and neurological gender differences. “They” did not “just change it.”

There are regions of the brains of females and males that are hardwired and distinctly different. For example the central region of the bed nucleus of the stria terininalis (BSTc) is one seat of gender differences. It is generally twice as large in males as it is in females. In transgender males, the BSTc is the same as that for women. So there is a real manifested neurological difference.

That is a scientifically based cause of transgender tendencies that was not known one hundred years ago. Transgenderism is not a mental illness. You can't change that kind of hard-wiring of the brain through therapy.

Looks to be dated to around 2010. APA change 80s.
But main point is that many take no action others do. It's a choice to choose to break out the scalpel and chemisty set.

Well, on any issue, I see that as problematic. The fact that such things are voted in and out of the diagnostic manual is disturbing. Human beings are inherently biased. Even someone with utmost integrity still feels more strongly for and against certain issues.
