Sarah Palin at the Iowa Republican Party Ronald Reagan Dinner!

Lest anyone forget, Ronald Reagan, RIP, is a terrorist convicted by the World Court, for crimes against the people of Nicaragua.

His adminstration sold arms to Iran to further his terrorism in Cental America.

Mrs Palin has yet to achive these giddy heights, but she is young and there is always a slot in the corporation for someone who is perfectly willing to ditch their humanity for a crack at fame and fortune.

Let us also not forget that the ICJ has no authority or jurisdiction to hear such a case, and their ruling is irrelevant.

Additionally, let us not forget that Nicaragua withdrew the complaint from the court in 1991.

I have not forgotten either.

The US did indeed claim the first, but this was rejected by the court, The ICJ
is of course a UN body, and the US is bound by treaty to accept their rulings.

One revealing consequence of these proceedings was that the US voted in the UN not to uphold international law, unltimately only being supported by..you guessed it.. Israel.

As for the second, the war with the US proxies ruined the Nicaraguan economy and the people of Nicaragua knew that they had to elect Chamorro to prevent further destruction. When the Nicaraguan Assembly voted against seeking compensation, the case became effectively moot.

Nevertheless, the US did receive a conviction for terrorism.

Anyone who thinks that this was some nasty foreign conspiracy should look at the domestic convictions handed down in the iran/contra affair. These offences were of course pardoned by the egregious Bush I.

Apparently you have no idea how the court actually operates... so let me inform you.

Your claim that all members are bound to accept ICJ rulings is patently false. The UN Charter only spells out that all members of the UN are "parties to the statute."

However, being a "party to the statute" in no way shape or form actually gives the court jurisdiction automatically. There are two types of cases that fall under the courts jurisdiction.

First, there is the "Contentious Issues", however in order to be bound by the Court's ruling here, both parties must agree to submit to the ruling, which obviously did not happen since the US refused to participate in the "trial."

After that, there are advisory opinions, which are irrelevant legally.

Of course ignoring all of those issues, the UN Charter (ie the law governing the Court) states that if a party does not abide by the ruling, it goes to the Security Council... so when the US refused to let anything happen, it was clearly within the letter of the law.

From a court that had no jurisdiction on the matter.... big deal. It would be akin to an Al Qaeda tribunal getting together and "convicting" the US of terrorism.
