They have presented a united front against any tax increases. And to the surprise of Democrats and Republican voters alike, they have stuck to it!

So far.

I'm delighted by this newfound courage the Republicans are showing. Of course, if they turn around and fold next week, it will all be for nought, and they will deserve to get kicked out just as much as the Democrats do. But so far, they are performing magnificently.

Shiela Jackson Lee has announced that Obama is being stood up to, because he is black. Of course. She isn't capable of seeing anything else.

But she's right as far as one thing goes: Only this President has been flatly and consistently refused in his de rigeur requests that we raise taxes. In the past, Republicans have caved. Every time. To every President. Only this time have they stood firm.

So far.

The wealth has been amassed on the back of the WORKERS, not the owners. The Owners have profited from the work, and made billions.

Their income has risen, their wealth has risen a LOT faster than the masses of people looking for "opportunities!"

20 years ago, the workers made about 225X less than the top CEO. Today, the CEO makes over 500X what the worker makes. That is NOT sustainable. It is not sustainable for the workers, but it is not sustainable for the owners either!

Every SMART businessman knows that. Buffett, Gates, many others KNOW that. They KNOW they should be paying more taxes.

Why cant people be smart enough to see that a BALANCE is necessary?

It is not about lowering the deficit ONLY with tax increases. . .it is about lowering it with a COMBINATION between tax increases (or at least, corporate welfare and tax loop reductions) AND reductions in spending.

Obama and the Democrats are willing to make reductions in spending, even where it hurts the most. The Republicans have that ridiculous idea that the whole deficit should be resolved on the back of the poor, the elderly, the disabled, and those who make just enough to live from month to month!. . .
This is based solely on a ridiculous ideology, not on reality, or logic, or healthy economics.

That there is a logical reason why the nurse, with 4 years college and 2 years graduate study is making about $65,000 a year, while the financial manager is making $250,000 a year plus bonus?

It is all about what we value and what we admire. And what we value and what we admire as a society is MONEY and GREED instead of service and hard work.

The president has a bowl full of homey expresions about us all needing to pitch in but when it comes to identifying who will actually do so its only the wealthy who already pay a disproportionate share. One can complain about soem of them paying not so much but was that illegal ? No. They followed the code and where incentives were made law they took them. BUt they all were incentives when written.

If you want to kill "loopholes" (formerly known as incentives) then kill them all including those supposedly intended to promote "gren" industry and everything else. They have no business being law anyway. Equal protection clearly not in play there.
