Purpose of the United Nations

Is the United Nations a viable Agency or "the old dog with no teeth?"
Where is diplomacy? America is on the verge of acting on it's own
(right or wrong). Our latest efforts spent convincing our own Congress
and People that we need to act. To enforce International Law. Where is
the same effort to build and support an International Agency. Or is
the world so corrupt that the dream of a United Nations impossible?
Now we are at another red-line, not a U.S. red-line. A red-line that
we determined in 1945 with the Charter of the United Nations.

It was never a viable agency. Just a PR vehicle that is the bane of NYC residents.

So we're left without legitimate international governance?
A set of standard to maintain international peace and security
"We the people" still governed by tribal leadership? Subjects
to PR and might? No unifying principles enforced on a
global stage, "For the people"

Guess, it's all still a fuzzy dream and the only way to survive
is to carry the biggest stick. Or stand next to the one with the
biggest stick.

However you do not require a UN to make cooperative treaties among nations and so it is that sensable ones like NATO work. But the notion that ALL nations will agree is a very wishfull one.
Consider that no international accord aming all or close to all has ever enjoyed total compliance is proof enough.

My "notion" is not that all nations will agree.

First - Just an International vehicle for resolving Disputes.

At a time in our history, weary of war we mustered the strength
and cooperation to envision a United Nations. Member Nations
commit a percentage of their GDP to fund it. An agency that
will live up to Article 1 of the Charter.

The growth of a new era child created out of the dust of world
war has - through neglect, verbal abuse, corruption, apathy,
and political manipulation - been stunted.

It's Time - That as - People of Earth - On a global scale
We expand our options in resolving International Issues.
Put down our sticks and create a venue for global justice
and global concerns.

you think we need someone to be the dad ? is there some reason nations cannot work out their differences themselves ? the un was never intended to be more than a PR tool same as the League of Nations. human nature will forever render the sweet idea you support to have any chance.

It's apparent from comments here that the United Nations
may no longer be a favorite child for many people.

The thread was opened more to discuss - where is the effort
to build and support an International Agency. A way to
expand our options in resolving International Issues. A
Global - Executive, Judicial, and Legislative entity,
dedicated to the advancement of mankind.

Nations have their forms of Executive, Judicial, and Legislative
entities to govern people. But on a global scale, we're still
relegated to parley and treaty. But when diplomacy breaks down,
we're left with subjugation or war. There are no legitimate
permanent global forms.

Forms commented to a set of standard to maintain international
peace, justice, security, and advancement of mankind. Not a one
world government, a world of governed governments.

Based on the founding Charter "Article 1", the U.N. was the
closest thing, at it's inception but:

Please don't mistake this thread as a promotion for the U.N. in
it's current state.

It was only an example of a "Vision" (at it's inception, one we
helped create) - One that was Lost.
