President Trump and the UK

And that was a costly error for them.

Do you think? Would it have been a productive encounter? Can you imagine the scene in the Oval Office, Donald banging the table ranting on about walls and payment plans and Enrique wondering what the limit on his American Express card is! Nah I think Enique did the right thing just stay at home and let the Twitter storm subside.

Hopefully Theresa will have a better reception, they say opposites attract.....

Do I think ? It already has. The peso crashed which is a big problem he did not need.
Could it have been productive ? Of course. This will be difficult for Mexico but running and hiding only makes it worse.
You can enjoy your little fantasy but the fact is this will happen and it's better to be in the discussion than dictated to in front of the world.
He screwed up. Badly.

But the scene today looks like Trump just might have more then a few things to bargain with. You see, Already Mexico is feeling the effects of the new tone from Washington. The Mexican peso has sharply devalued since Trump was elected, and several high-profile business ventures have been canceled amid threats to impose a border tax on goods made in Mexico and exported to the United States.

Guys Guys!! Peso down... Peso up.... markets rise markets fall.... yadda yadda

Isn't the point one of how you deal with people; the "fantasy" was to illustrate a point (somewhat flippantly but hey) being the requirements of statesmanship when engaging with world leaders. Yeah Donald is playing to a domestic gallery but conducting diplomacy over twitter/facebook it lacks style…. amateur hour.

If you’re going to attempt to screw someone at least be subtle about it.

Style has gotten us what ?
Status quo is done, Mexico has no bargaining position. No value in pretending otherwise.

Tell the corn growers in the US that Mexico buys their corn from. Tell that to the cattle producers that send their yearlings to Mexico for fattening. Tell that to the auto manufacturers that have parts made in Mexico.

You're right. Unfortunately a lot of people north as well as south of the wall will have skin in this game.
