1. After President Trump downplayed the severity of a major hack that’s breached at least half-a-dozen U.S. government agencies and potentially thousands of businesses, and sought to shift blame from Russia to China, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) during a Sunday interview with NBC accused the president of having a “blind spot” when it comes to Russia, pushing for a more forceful response from the White House....

The former Republican presidential candidate criticized Trump for his tweet Saturday claiming the hack was “greater in the Fake News Media than in actuality,” a characterization that contradicts his administration’s own cybersecurity agency and secretary of state....

2. Trump's puzzling “blind spot” on Russia once again turns the spotlight on the question whether he has any compromising information held by Putin. Please read the interesting comment by Sen. Jeff Merkley in the following news report.

3. Sen. Jeff Merkley told BuzzFeed News Monday that he thinks Russia has compromising information on President Donald Trump, specifically "something like" the alleged "pee tape" of Trump with prostitutes in Russia in 2013, as alleged in a dossier compiled by a former British intelligence official.

Merkley, a Democrat who sits on the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, is considering running for president in 2020. He was speaking to BuzzFeed News Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith on AM to DM when he made the comments.

"What do you think of Trump's persistent, among other things, refusal to criticize Vladimir Putin? I mean do you think Vladimir Putin has anything on him?" Smith asked.

"I think it's likely, yeah," Merkley said. "It's a standard strategy of Russia when people visit there who are important to try to get compromising information on them, to set them up with hookers, to tape everything that goes on in their room."....

"Something close to that, something close to that," Merkley said.....
