The Maine Board of Environmental Protection was set to discuss a California-style electric vehicle mandate, but the meeting was postponed due to a severe storm leaving 400,000 residents without power.

The mandate would require 82% of new vehicles to be zero-emission by 2032. Democratic Rep. Jared Golden opposed the plan, citing grid insufficiency and lack of charging stations.

The Maine Board of Environmental Protection said in a statement, “Governor Janet Mills declared a State of Civil Emergency for 14 Maine counties following a significant wind and rain storm that has left hundreds of thousands of people without power and that has caused significant flooding and infrastructure damage, including to town and state roadways.”

“In consideration of the challenges facing Maine citizens who may wish to participate in the upcoming Board meeting in Augusta, the Board is postponing its meeting scheduled for December 21, 2023,” read the statement.

Maine Democratic Rep. Jared Golden said, “In two days, the Maine Board of Environmental Protection will vote on proposed rules that would establish a California-style set of mandates forcing Maine auto dealers — and ultimately their customers — to purchase zero-emission vehicles.”

“Earlier this year, I submitted testimony in opposition to such a mandate and have taken every opportunity in Congress to vote against policy that amounts to de facto electric vehicle mandates,” he continued.

I agree. The technology should speak for itself. For example, my wife and I have not bought a drop of gasoline or a kilowatt of electricity since 2012 when we purchased a rooftop solar system and our first two EVs. And although we are not opposed to paying a form of "replacement taxation," neither have we directly paid gasoline taxes since 2012. Since then, we have saved well over $100.000 concerning gasoline, electricity, and taxes. Those things should appeal to the political Right and the Left, just as solar technology should stand on its merit rather than legislation.

No alarming global warming believer's scientific prediction has come true in 50 years, yet secularists continue to insist the predictions will come true eventually in spite of the scientific evidence to the contrary.

I agree. The technology should speak for itself. Even though you could afford to invest in expensive green energy technologies does not make it practical or possible for the tens of millions of Americans who cannot afford such luxuries. Furthermore, the US has dumped billions of dollars into jumpstarting green energy projects that flopped or will flop after the government money runs out and the industries will be required to operate as public for-profit enterprises.

The US cannot afford to go off fossil fuel dependency without putting the economy and peoples' lives at serious risk.
