Your celebration of Halloween is spreading throughout the world. Is it good or a celebration of evil spirits?

I got asked this on another board…Should Christians participate in Halloween?

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about Halloween. On the one hand, I find many aspects of this holiday deeply disturbing, including its traditional aspects like ghosts, witches, devils, evil, and the occult. Like some of you, I’m uncomfortable with the darker side of Halloween.
On the other hand, certain features of the modern day Halloween strike me as being nothing but harmless fun. Children love dressing up, and I see no reason to stop them as long as their costumes are tasteful and non-occult in theme. They also enjoy getting candy and goodies from the neighbors (who wouldn’t?) and showing off their outfits from door to door. From my perspective, there’s nothing objectionable about this part of Halloween. It’s hard to imagine a more innocent or childlike activity than trick-or-treating. This assumes, of course, that parents take precautions to provide for safe and reliable supervision before allowing their children to participate.
This is not to say that I don’t understand other peoples feelings. I sympathize with your concerns and respect others commitment to biblical standards of holiness. I’m also aware that this topic is highly controversial among Christian parents. For this reason, I won’t presume to tell anyone how to handle the problem of Halloween in your home. My thoughts here represent my opinion and I offer them to you purely as another perspective that you may want to take into consideration. Ultimately, I believe that you should stay faithful to your own convictions and do what you think best.

Before I get blasted by our resident atheist.. Remember YOU ask and it's just an opinion

I am by no means an atheist ..... but, I believe if a Christian has a problem with Halloween ...... keep it to yourself!

What is the difference in atheist wanting to do away with every thing religious in our society and Christians wanting to do away with Halloween?

Or, even renaming it Fall Fest?

They should both STOP trying to tell everyone else how to live their LIVES!

Really Aus ....

Where did you get the delusion that Halloween was a celebration of evil spirits ....

Let me guess .... from your love of the MSM!
I got it from Born Again Christians who wrote on a Liberal site I subscribe to. They seem to think it was devil worship. It also has Christian origins link wit All Souls Day but as Dogtowr said these links have been lost. I think so have any evil links. It is harmless but to Australians it is a sign of too much American influence here.

Care to post a link to your "liberal" site ....

And, as far is Australia is concerned .... you guys are socialist ..... Marxist ... of course you are not interested in any American influence!

I have more fundamentalist friends who find halloween an evil mess. They thought Harry Potter was aweful as well. Not a lot loke this but some are. At least these folks simply chose to not participate. No interest in making others feel that way.

I personally find nothing wrong with holloween, but as a Christian I understand others concerns..

Am I missing something here? is everyone except you suppose to keep it to themselves?

Obviously you are missing it .....

I am saying to let people celebrate Halloween if they want to call it Halloween, including our school children and if a person believes Halloween is evil then let them keep their own kids from celebrate it .... but, stop trying to rename it and not allow other children to celebrate it because of some crazy religious belief!

Yes ... I know these religious zealots exist everywhere. At my children's schools they have to call it Fall Fest .....

My issue is with them trying to change and rename our traditional holidays for their own ridiculous beliefs. What is the difference between these so called Christians having Halloween festivals removed from our schools and Atheist having religion removed from our schools?

There are a tiny few Christians who have a problem with Halloween. In any group some just don't have perspective.

Its a fun excuse to sell candy and dress up. Sure salacious costumes are the norm among adults and lewdness is all too common - blame the people in the costumes and not the dress code. And yes there will be an abundance of witches and goblins but I have more of a problem with how witches are treated in media, among Wiccans, and by Christians themselves who ascribe false notions to the power of witches than I do to a theory of witchcraft that would theoretically be advance on Halloween by a ten year old with a hat.
