Insults and Rude Language

If anyone cares...I have been posting for several months and have found some good information and solid discussion, but the level of insults and rude language has reached a threshold level for me. I'm not thin skinned, but over and over I see good threads hijacked by a few people who do nothing but personally attack the individuals trying to have a real debate. If this is acceptable behavior for this forum then I'll go somewhere else to post my thoughts.

You are not alone. I would prefer that we raise the bar around here and strictly enforce the rules of the forum. Those who argue against such actions claim that over-enforcing the rules will drive away current posters and keep new ones from joining.

Personally, I think it would be much easier to attract new posters if we were strict on the 1st rule of the forum and fostered an environment of civilized discussion. If that means some current posters have to adapt and play nice or be invited to leave, I'd be just fine with that.

I am all for playing nice, its not easy when goated and as of late I would rather throw an insult back rather than ignore it, but Id be happy not to have to ignore it or throw it.
I am great with the idea of inforcing the rules.

I've been on some where if you even just said someone had a stupid idea (and even if it REALLY was stupid) it was grounds for eviction... not much fun there.

Fact is I've seen the hardest insults and the most cuss words have without any doubt come from the Right... people like Libsmasher, Bob The Builder & that Nazi guy from Canada Saxon. Although I will say after a few evictions that this has mellowed considerably.

I think there's now a pretty good mix of real messages & information, sarcasm and humor.

I'd say you three TheFranklinParty, GenSeneca & Pandora do often post a real opinion as far as how you see things. But there's also a little baiting that's goes on from your side as well. Let's be honest when your tag line is obama is so damn bad that he actually makes the antichrist look like a better option! you aren't really looking for a moderate debate.

I could go on & on about the laundry list of attacks and direct personal insults that your buddies on the Conservative side have been involved in trying to slam more Liberal posters over the years but that's common knowledge.

In fact when I first started posting here (coming from a real Gestapo for the rules forum) I eventually made an appeal to the Mods against the Conservatives. Their reply to me went something like this: Thick skin topgun. We are not going to become a politically correct forum.

That said I in my over 4000 posts found this give and take (venting if you will) a lot more enjoyable than the Mods jumping in on every negative word someone posts like some forums do. I see no benefit from stopping one from making a jab now and then, being sarcastic or making jokes about a position. It would ruin the forum to be so strict.

Now yes sometimes you get a Bob the builder or Saxon that is aggressively foul mouthed, threatening or likes to call out the Mods and they are warned and so on.

If you ask me this is what happened. There was a small group maybe 3 or 4 ultra Conservative Obama hating posters in here that led in the harshness category to other posters. This was completely unlike say Conservative Big Rob who would fight the Liberal positions to the end, but non-personally.

Then as the Conservatives started to be overcome due to the President being elected and some Conservatives tried that little "we'll go in and destroy the Liberals reputation points on every post". That was eventually caught and reputation had to be turned off.

So after all that I find it almost humorous the complaining. I will say this in fairness however. Many Conservative posters in here have lowered the level of meanness over the last few months.

I personally think things in here are very balanced.

See the 'LOGOUT' option...see the way that you came in...don't like it here {suffering from much of what you dealt to others} unchain that mental bond and just walk away; I doubt anyone will be throwing themselves at you to circumvent that DEPARTURE {well except for one pom-pom carrying whiner}

Hey I think with the uber Conservative lunatic fringe out there EVERYONE is used to the name calling. Progressives & Liberals when attacked now fully engage... I like that.

Sometimes the Conservatives mean streak even goes this route...

I also agree with your braver/cockier analysis. Very easy to be tough when ducking behind a computer monitor. The beauty of the interwebs!
