If Obama can restrict guns with an EO, can a Republican President restrict abortion with an EO?

Suppose it's found to be legal, for Pres. Obama to restrict guns with an Executive Order.

Once this is done, what would prevent a future Republican president from restricting abortion with an Executive Order?

There are limited actions he can take with Executive Order...none of which really amount to banning guns. As for the abortion issue, President's in the past have rountinely used Executive Order to make policy on abortion. President Bush used an EO to reinstate the Mexico City Policy for example.

You forgot to mention that Big Ears rescinded the policy 48 hours after taking office....by executive order...nothing is more sacred to an ardent leftist, then murdering in the womb.

AMEN!! Just wait til the next Republican president comes. The next one is gonna abolish Abortion and the EPA by powers of the executive order .

There are certain things the President can do with an Executive Order, but outright gun bans and confiscation is not one of them.

As I mentioned, the Prez is supposed to use Executive Orders to implement something passed by Congress.

Brings up an interesting question: Suppose there is a plan that has NOT been passed by Congress... but which is explicitly spelled out in the Constitution? Could the President legitimately use an Executive Order to implement that?

Actually it might almost be a moot question, since everything in the Constitution HAS been passed by Congress (a 2/3 majority of each house, or better). Also ratified by 3/4 of the states, or better. That goes for the body of the Constitution itself, as well as every amendment it has so far.

Let's see. The 2nd amendment was passed by 2/3 of each house of Congress, and then ratified by 3/4 of the states. Just as the rest of the Bill of Rights was.

And the second said that for certain reasons, the people's right to own and carry guns can't be restricted or taken away.

Would there be anything illegal in the President issuing an Executive Order declaring that all Federal so-called "gun control" laws are hereby struck down and invalidated?

Restrict abortion in what ways ? Please be specific . Abortion is legal through the first trimester, but not in the last
unless to save a woman's life or health . That's pretty resonable as far as I'm concerned . But anti-choice politicians want to
do everything they can to ultimately make ALL abortions illegal , and they're trying to do it by stealth by making more and more
restrictions .
They demand that even women and girls who are the victims of rape and incest bear children , no matter what the horrible
consequences would be . Last October, a young pregnant woman from India living in Ireland had a miscarriage . Abortion is illegal
there, and the doctors refused to save her life by terminating th epregnancy. So what happened? She spent three days
dying in agony . Do we want horrible situations like this in America ?
