I'm from NY, I live in SC, and I'm a teacher.

I've been looking for a good political forum and so far I like this one. Some of the forums I checked out were way too active (leave a thread for an hour and you miss 65 replies) or not active enough. This one appears to have the perfect amount of activity.

My politics flows from the principle of people over profits. I think the people working in a factory ought to make the decisions in the factory, and I think the people living in a democracy ought to make the decisions in a democracy. I have no idea how or why that is a "radical" view, but I'm told that it is.

Anyway, I only discuss the topics, I never venture into personal stuff. Good to be here and I hope to be around for a long time.

I once again extend a welcome to you Cosmo and I would like to apologize for the posters who greeted you with hostility. We should all greet new posters amicably.

I have two questions if you don't mind answering them:

1. Who is that on your avatar? Looks like Marx but I wanted to be sure.

2. What do you teach?

My avatar is from Ayn Rands book, Capitalism: The unknown ideal, and CaLiCo is an acronym I created, Capitalism, Libertarianism, Conservatism.

Enjoy your time here at the HOP. :)

welcome to the site, hope you stick around and enjoy...you will find its pretty easy to figure out who is worth trying to debate with and who is not...

On your 35th post you say hello. Interesting....but hey welcome Cosmo Kramer the Anarchist. I am certain we will get along handsomely.

The dude in his avatar is the renowned anarchist Mikhail Bakunin.

Hey Cosmo, can you tell me why anarchists always work in tandem with leftist groups to destroy order?

GenSeneca- Thanks. It's Bakunin in my avatar and I teach Social Studies. I don't know why I keep getting called a "troll" (to be honest I don't even know what exactly a "troll" is in internet lingo), but I appreciate it and I look forward to good discussions/debates with you.\

pocketfullofshells- Thanks. I'm already starting to figure that out...

Gipper- Don't know what you mean. I believe in a highly organized society as does every anarchist I know.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome.

Okay. Then why is it that anarchists are typically aligned with Leftist groups?

Do not anarchists disagree with those on the Left such as commies, Marxists, and socialists, who want government to control all aspects of society? Yet, it appears to me that most anarchists are working in tandem with these leftist groups. It does not make sense unless there are ulterior motives at work.

No. Anarchism represents the anti-statist wing of socialism. Everyone knows this story but basically socialism split into two camps, the statists and the anti-statists. The statists became people like Lenin, Stalin, Castro, these types. Marx himself tended much more toward the statist side in his later writings, but he didn't have much to say about the distinction either way. But the anti-statist wing basically merged with the already-vibrant anarchist element. So this tradition can be called Left Libertarianism, socialism, anti-statism, anarchism, libertarian socialism, whatever. These terms lose their meaning at some point. Anyway, there's a quote that in modern European history, "every anarchist was a socialist but not every socialist with an anarchist" although I can't recall who said it. So yeah if you're talking about the difference between a Bakunin and a Lenin, it's vast. But if you take say Rosa Luxembourg, her socialist views are right in line with those of Bakunin and everyone who subscribed to the basic principles of socialism/anarchism. But "anarchism" has nothing to do with chaos or disorder or violence or any of that. Just as socialism has nothing to do with tyrannical government control. These are all total misconceptions.

As for your thing about being "aligned with leftist groups," you'll have to be more specific.

BTW, how come there's no political philosophy forum here? That should be a must.

Anarcho-Syndicalism always seemed silly to me, they describe the market as an unnatural oppressive first but it merely describes how goods and services naturally transfer in the absence of coercion.
