Did religion create the people or visa versa?

Some people say religion has corrupted people's minds making them evil. However, other people say people were already corrupt, so they turned things like the Bible into a reflection of themselves. Who are we to believe? Could the answer be somewhere in between the two extremes?

God created people.
Right and wrong basically just are.
Religion ? I suppose you would have to say it's either an expression of how man comprehends God or a mechanism to gain authority (power money etc).
Not too sure those mix although they may start one way and flip the other.

Some people have said that the original Christian teaching was corrupted over time. This idea of corruption is known in the bible as the "Babylon" teaching, and is featured in Revelation, and indirectly in other parts of the New Testament.

Of course, posters like Gnostic Christian Bishop tend to disagree, saying the original teaching, as well as other religious creeds, were bad from the start.

There's nothing new about people placing themselves above God and bending truth to their personal gain. I don't buy that all men are incapable of being godly.
But it all misses the point that God wants a personal relationship with all of us. Personal. Your forgiveness is built upon this. Any religious person that tells you there is some person you need first is not helping.
Gnostic is a curious one but his agenda is obvious and unhelpful.

Actually, a great deal of the Bible addresses false teaching. Therefore, in a weird way, the Bible is sort of confirming the cynicism of the poster Gnostic. However, the Bible doesn't deny that there is a base truth that is correct.

If you want the truth all you have to do is be open to it.

The Bible definitely does say some are simply closed to the whole idea. It's like somebody who can't get a certain joke, math strategy, or philosophical idea. Of course, a lot of people are prejudiced in their thinking due to the environment. Of course, the environment has been manipulated by Satan to encourage disbelief.
