Corruption is widespread in the Philippines. All governments have been govern by the rich Spanish families who did nothing to end corruption. Even Acquino family who owned half a town and would not distributed the land.
The new Presidents is trying to end corruption. Sometimes his methods are extreme, Killing suspects without court trial. But he believes this is the only way.
The Philippines like Australia is depended on China economically. It can not oppose China to the same extent as the USA. It does not want American troops in bases in he Philippines as this might provoke China.
The USA did nothing to end corruption in the Philippines.

Australia's dependence on China is not a good thing, and that situation is especially true if China's military begins to match or exceed the American one.

Anyhow, the new president fails to realize the US is not responsible for a lot of the Filipino corruption. The US simply leaves the nation alone to govern it's own affairs, but the country refuses to enforce corruption laws which have always been in place. Of course, in history there has been some examples where the US has stepped in to support corrupt companies at the expense of the people. However, nowadays it isn't the norm, at least not in the Phillippines.

For instance, it is a norm in the Phillippines to give bribes to get things or get things done quicker. How would the US have anything to do with that situation?
