I was raised within the Catholic faith, so technically I am a Catholic. But I am not a practicing one. I don't follow all the rules of my church, I can't get behind the feelings on birth control, same sex love, divorce or even abortion. I know these are some controversial issues, and I am not saying that I always approve but for me an individual should have the right to make their own decisions in their live. In the end we are the ones who must answers for those choices, no church or state will do it for us. So, why should we have decisions taken away from us when its our lives to live.

Of course its your life but you do recognizethat there is a coconsequence. But you can also assure forgiveness where a non christian cannot. It all works out.

Pocket:
Have you ever been wrong in your life, even once?
Have you ever made a choice which you later regret?
Have you ever failed an exam in school or got a traffic ticket or lost a Super Bowl bet?
Has someone close to you ever surprised you or have you ever bought a lemon?
Did you ever buy a Betamax or a Pontiac or a Radio Shack computer?
I've been wrong so many times in my life I don't like to remember so many times.
Maybe that's part of the reason I'm a Christian.
I like the concept of forgiveness.

Ever think just what may happen if you are wrong about consequences after life?
Denying the existence of after life consequences doesn't make them go away.
I already tried that with the IRS.

so you believe something is true because its convenient?
Yes I have been wrong, so have you...there are 10000 Religions, you most likely believe the one that you where told to believe from a kid with limited or no knowledge of 99% of all other Religions....what makes you think your not wrong again given the zero proof of religion in general , let alone the one specific one you hold?
Yep I have failed a test...is that proof of God? no I don't lose Superbowl bets. ( maybe I should bet more?)
Yes Someone has surprised me, does that mean Jesus is the son of God? Yes, I have bought a lemon, and a lime...Outside that no I have not had a lemon in the sense I think you meant. I do lots of research before I buy.
Yes I bought a beta max...it was 2 dollars at a garage sale and I did so to watch a bowling tape that was on Beta-max..it did just what I wanted it to do. I had a Pontiac...it was a great car and did very well until someone put a screwdriver threw the door lock to break in. No I buy good Computers.
Yes I have been wrong many times in my life...so should I praise Buddha? The Profit Muhammad? Prey to a Aztec God? Will Asking Zeus for help make me not wrong? No...so again.
Your a Christian because your wrong a lot? and you don't think maybe this is yet another time?
So do I...I don't ask for it from a God...I ask for it from those I hurt. Nor do I have a expectation of no matter what it can all just be forgiven by some large deity who for some reason is all powerful yet acts like a spoiled evil child...Sometimes you do something wrong, and will no be forgiven..so be it...you have to live with that burden. Maybe living with the burden teaches you something.

Just wanting to believe in something, is not proof of it. Its not even a slight indication its true. Something is true or not true...your wants, your beliefs, you ideas, mean nothing. It is , or it is not. When there is no proof of something...and in fact science shows it to be incorrect a great many times. When the Book itself you belive is often in contradiction. And when your believing in something, not because of what you yourself know...but rather, what a bunch of unnamed people wrote down hundreds of years after something, 2000 years ago....?

I am a Christian. My father was Roman Catholic and that is where my induction into Christianity started. I vaguely remember Father O'toole was the one who baptized me. I am now a devout Christian having learn't alot about The devil and hellfire and alp the Great Tribulation.

I love God but dislike all religions.
I don't believe any of them really follow or know what God wants, developed around controlling people.

I don't pretend I know, but I'm confident that our conscience is a good guide and if we follow that, we can't go too wrong.

I don't know if God is an alien and we're some sort of experiment or if there are hundreds of them, no idea, but I'm thankful whatever they are :)

I am a Catholic Still going to church but agree wit some of Par 2 comments. We have to work it out ourselves.

This is basically my situation too. I was raised Catholic, would go to church with my family once a week and so forth - but as an adult I'm not a practicing Catholic either. Like you, there's too many issues that I simply don't agree with, that the Catholic church have tough line stances on. I just try to be a good person, be respectful to others, and be kind...I think those are good principles whatever religion a person is! :)

raised Catholic, graduated from Catholic schools, finally became a Christian. As to forgiveness, and the nonbeliever:

Romans 2: 12-16

"For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

My own conclusion is that all modern organized religions are apostate, therefore I have organized my own.

The fundamental creation principle is that of the philosophical "First Cause" which is the foundational a-priori axiom. In other words, we know there is a God or Gods because we ourselves exist, and we know we did not create ourselves and that we cannot create much of anything besides big fiery explosions with nuclear bombs.

The First Cause axiom is reinforced a-posteriori by the closely related corollaries of "Prime Mover", "Artistic Artificer", and "Purposeful Designer". In other words, besides our own existence which points directly towards a Creator God, there are other signs of this God or these Gods: (1) the movement of the stars, planets, comets, and the Moon; (2) the beautiful symmetry with which all things have been created; and (3) the apparent purposefulness and progress of life on Earth.

The Empiricist values of perception with vision, hearing, and touch affirm the existence of all things around us and in the distant space of the Universe. The Hubble space telescope has shown us billions of galaxies just like our own Milky Way Galaxy. This suggests that a multitude of Gods are at work creating, governing, and regulating the whole Universe.

We ourselves are born tabula rasa and become a mixture of knowledge gained externally and internally. At some point we each discover that like Emmanuel Kant it is wrong to exploit others for our own mere gratifications. Instead we must respect all others as valuable like ourselves. This includes the other animals and plants and the whole Earth as well.

As for the many supposed prophets who have brought messages from the Gods of the various Religions, their messages no longer matter because their organized religions have all been thoroughly corrupted by humans since then.

So everyone is on their own to reach out to our God and keep His/Her/Its laws of living.

Everyone bears the responsibility of learning these laws on their own and following them.

Here is a summary of what I have learned:

1 - Be reverent regarding the God or Gods when you speak of them.

2 - Do not ridicule others for their own beliefs but strive to be tolerant of all.

3 - Do not kill anyone except in self defense or for defense of your nation.

4 - Do not kill other animals except for food and then only humanely and as needed sparingly.

5 - Help others as much as you can and share your surplus with them as much as possible.

6 - Help to clean up the Earth and leave it a better place than you found it.

7 - Be productive in society and do your share of all the necessary work.

8 - Be pleasant and kind towards all others including people, animals, and plants.

9 - As Hesiod the ancient Greek said, strive for moderation not excesses in all thing.

10 - Make sure your diet and the diets of others around you is balanced among protein, carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and herbal drinks including coffee and tea in moderation.

11 - Help to eradicate starvation in the world.

12 - Help to eradicate disease in the world.

13 - Help to eradicate war in the world.

14 - Help to conserve precious clean pure water.

15 - Help to preserve clean fresh air.
